FIAT twin-cam engine aka Lampredi twin-cam

The FIAT twin-cam engine, also known as the Lampredi twin cam, is an advanced double overhead camshaft inline-four automobile engine designed by ex-Ferrari engineer Aurelio Lampredi and produced from 1966 through 2000 by FIAT and Lancia. Here are some key details about the FIAT twin-cam engine.

The famous twin-cam engine modified the engine block from the overhead valve 124-series engine found in the FIAT 124 sedan available ranging from 1.3L to 2.1L variants . The cylinder head is made in three parts, with one carrying the combustion chamber and valves and separate castings for each camshaft in tunnel-type bearings. The engine features a revolutionary method for adjusting valve clearance, making maintenance easier.

Lampredi’s twin-cam engine was first seen in the FIAT 124 coupé in late 1966. It was later used in various other FIAT cars, including Lancia.
